Operating Theatre

A dedicated facility operating to the highest standards

At Alma we have a dedicated operating theatre for performing surgical procedures. The operating theatre is a totally separate room minimising the footfall of personnel. Staff working in the operating theatre wear correct theatre attire before entering, this consists of a theatre suit (scrubs), a cap, a mask and shoe covers. This assists with asepsis (the absence of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms) of the theatre environment.

The Veterinary Surgeons and scrubbed personnel use sterile single use gloves, gowns and drapes to ensure the highest standards of sterility throughout surgical procedures. All areas of the hospital are regularly tested to ensure that we remain MRSA free. The operating theatre and equipment within it are thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom at the end of each day, as well as a thorough clean of all surfaces between each procedure to prevent cross-contamination.

Our operating table is electrically heated to keep our patients warm and minimise heat-loss during surgery. We also have underfloor heating and air-conditioning in this room to maintain an ambient room temperature. As well as neuterings, we perform a wide range of soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries including tumour removals and fracture repairs. We also regularly perform laparoscopic and emergency soft tissue surgeries when required.
